Where does the term ‘bed sore’ originate?

Use of the term ‘bed sore’ originates to the 1860′s when the name was given to skin lesions or sores that would form on people’s bodies after being bedridden for periods of time. Nowadays, we have come to learn that bed sores may also form due to confinement to a wheelchair, gurney or prolonged exposure to a hard surface.
